God Is WAITING for You to Ask
We read in Matthew 7 that we are to “ask.” I remember the first time I saw this word I considered it one of the many words used in the Bible for prayer. So I turned to my Greek lexicon to discover that this word “ask” means…ask! It’s not a special prayer word; it’s simply a word of request. God wants us to ask!
Let me share with you a memorable story to drive this truth home...
“You do not have because you do not ask.”
James 4:2
More from Dr David Jeremiah:
Jesus tells us, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7). So we don’t miss His point, our Lord uses the word “ask” five times in this passage. “Ask,” says the Lord. He doesn’t say “beg.” He merely says, “ask.”
This can only mean that God is not waiting for us to bang down His heavenly door and importune Him, though there is the issue of persistence in prayer. The real issue is this: We have not because we ask not.
In the weeks I spent writing this, a number of people came to me and told me about their problems, asking for counsel on how to deal with them. I have to admit, I’ve never been so straightforward before: “Have you asked God about it?” More often than not, the reply was, “Well…no, I guess I haven’t.”
Let me tell you, asking God is a good place to start! Why would anyone come to David Jeremiah before they would approach the Creator of the universe? I don’t have much to give; God has whole worlds in His back pocket.
